Spidey Joins The Avengers!

Image
Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the Avengers, a team that EVERYONE and their brother knows, unless you're some fucking lunatic weirdo psycho that grew up reading about the Justice League of America. Sidenote, why are they called the Justice League of America if they protect more than just America? That's kinda silly. So, can you really call Spider-Man an "Avenger"? Eh, depends on the day, I never saw Spider-Man as part of a team, I mean, sure, he's worked with teams before, but he's always been a loner to me, no sidekick, no team, no nothing, just made him more relatable because sometimes you just gotta do things by yourself. Like I did for Sins Past, I'm gonna look at something similar to what I'm gonna be reviewing next for the JMS retrospective, so I looked for one of the earliest meetings between the Avengers and Spider-Man. So, in order to coincide with Spidey moving into Avengers tower in issue 519, I chose to review the one time Spidey actually DI...

When you hear about the death of your favorite characters, your stomach sinks a little bit, it's like hearing about the loss of a loved one, but much, much worse. This series continues, the first issue was less than stellar, but I did say there was room for improvement... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. That's all I've got, this is Gwenpool '25 #2 by Cavan Scott and Stefano Nesi. BUT LET'S ESTABLISH A NEW RULE: - I have to be brutally honest, the covers for this series all suck, so we're reviewing variants. This is the infinitely better variant cover . This one was drawn by Lesley Li, and it looks great, actually. It depicts Gwen (Stacy) in a cool pose about to murder you. Main cover shows a spoiler, so... "Rated T+", I don't see anyone over the age of 23 picking this up.  I just felt a sharp pain in my chest from picking this up, looks like this post is about to turn out to become the tragic death of the original Spider-Plush... ...

The Big Ouchie.

Well, Sins Past is done, it's time to look at something that isn't hated by 99.5% of the fanbase... Skin Deep, the storyline right after Sins Past, no one seems to remember it, but it gave us some damn good covers.  The behind-the-scenes story is very interesting because there is none... Well, I guess J. Michael Straczynski walked into his office one day, and then he got his typewriter ready and started typing away the script, and then on his lunch break, he ate a bagel and drank some coffee... And then he went back to work, and after the script was finished, he handed it off to Mike Deodato Jr. for penciling, and then he did that 3 more times. Oh, and he also told Mark Brooks to draw some flashback sequences. Welp, looks like this is one of the last regular storylines in this run, let's have a big look into The Amazing Spider-Man #515. Believe it or not, I actually DO have these issues! In the form of the digital TPB. The cover (by Gary Frank) is nothing special, but it do...

C'mon.

World News: - I saw a pretty bird today. Marvel News:  - The new Gwenpool sucks. See you all June 15th. - Superman just came ou- Wait, that isn't Marvel. - Spider-Man '94 looks like absolute fucking dogshit. Of all the artists they could've chosen, they chose the one artist that cannot draw faces. Also, Peter looks like a total wimp, which is inaccurate because 1994 Spidey was an absolute machine. - Ironheart released recently, but I don't have Disney+. - Marvel Rivals has just introduced a few new things, like symbiote character costumes, and the Future Foundation, and this has caused OUTRAGE within the fanbase. Honestly, it seems to me that NetEase could give players 1,000,000 dollars each and they'd still be outraged. - There was a Squirrel Girl book, I reported on this really late seeing as how this was released since before I even made this page. Read it, it's called "Squirrel Meets World". - I had a wet dream involving Susan Storm. Site News: - I...

This is the uncensored version. For the censored cut without all the swearing and the mentions of sex, click here. There are only 4 certainties in life: Death, taxes, Burger King messing up my damn order and having a Spider-Man review site look at Sins Past. You've seen everyone's reviews, you've seen everyone making fun of it (including Marvel themselves) and you even lived long enough to see it get retconned (Thanks, Nick Spencer). The story has it that in 2004, J. Michael Straczynski wanted to write a story about Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker's secret children that eventually tried to kill Peter... Odd, but okay. This is where Marvel's then editor-in-chief Joe Quesada comes in... So, Joe tells JMS that making Spider-Man have children would make the character seem like an old hag, and that would turn off new readers... Joe, I love you as much as I love my own son, but that is total bullshit, and you know it. You may be wondering, what happened last time? Well, Ezeki...

Papa Eddie's bedtime story.

Hey kids! Time for the bedtime story, today we're reading about our favorite character, Spider-Man Well, let's have a look at this little story. Just let me tuck you in. Okay, ready? Well, let's begin. Our first character is Spider-Man, aka Peter Parker, he is a nice young boy with the powers of a spider. Spidey has a wife by the name of Mary Jane, she is a pretty girl that enjoys acting in plays. May is Spider-Man's aunt, she likes taking care of Spidey. The Green Goblin is an evil meanie that constantly annoys Spidey with his evil plots to take over the world. Gwen Stacy is a former friend of Spider-Man who unfortunately... Uh... How do I put this... Well, she moved to a different country and cannot see Spider-Man anymore :( Gabriel and Sarah are brother and sister, pretty much inseparable, and they want to talk to Spidey. During breakfast at Aunt May's house, Peter is really sad because he can't see his friend Gwen anymore, so, with a bit of empathy, Gabriel ...

Originally reviewed on Wix back on January 29th, 2023. Gwendolyn Stacy was a character from the Amazing Spider-Man comic series, she first appeared in issue... I don't remember, but it was a Ditko issue. She was gorgeous, she was charming, she was perfect in every way. For a while, she was Spider-Man's girlfriend. Oh, and I suppose Mary Jane was there too. Spider-Man's biggest enemy of all time is the Green Goblin, aka Norman Osborn, a scientist CEO dude that had a little lab accident and now has another personality that thinks about nothing but mischief. Little problems that were presented in the series prior to this issue: Green Goblin knows Spider-Man's secret identity and everyone he loves, meaning that he can attack anyone at any point to hurt Spider-Man's feelings. Gwen Stacy does not like Spider-Man, I don't think she ever did, and she really started to HATE him because she believed that it was Spider-Man who murdered her father, George Stacy. The behind-...

Spider-Man's most surreal adventure yet.

Ezekiel Sims, a character that has made me ask multiple questions like "What" or "huh", but he's been relatively nice for the last couple issues or so. Now, since this review was meant for people that have already READ the stories, try to imagine a little kid in April, 2004 that has just seen Spider-Man on DVD (Spidey 2 came out in late June), his parents buy him ("him" because girls don't read comics... Well, they don't read Spider-Man comics) a subscription to The Amazing Spider-Man, and THESE are his first 3 issues... Pretty confusing way to start reading, but hey, my first comic was "New Ways To Die", and I'm still a fan. The thing is that these issues are pretty weird, complicated and honestly kinda dark for the young Spidey fan... Luckily, I am not a young Spider-Man fan, so let's take a look at The Amazing Spider-Man #506 by J. Michael Straczynski and John Romita Jr. This is The Book Of Ezekiel, Chapter one. The cover s...

I once challenged myself by reading 100 issues of Spider-Man, and you wanna know how many I remember? About 20. I planned to review this one as part of the birthday special, but I didn't. This one is really interesting because, as Al Sjoerdsma from SpiderFan.org  puts it, "...when I first saw this issue on the revolving comic rack back in 1967, I was really worried. First of all, I was ten years old, which is to say I was gullible. And second, I had seen plenty of other comics series come and go, never to be seen again. Who's to say it couldn't happen to Spider-Man? He wasn't the icon that he is today."   Which is why I gotta be so thankful that I don't read comics as they come out, because if I was gullible and saw that my favorite comic was ending, I would cry all day, I don't blame Al for thinking that. This comic features Spider-Man quitting, it's a moment that has been adapted... Well, actually not enough times! But the most memorable moment c...

The Making Of "Eddie's Guide To Gwenpool"

Making a blog post is difficult, and today, you'll see how hard it was to make my magnum opus and biggest comic book review yet, my retrospective for The Unbelievable Gwenpool. PRE-PRODUCTION AND BUDGET: As mentioned in the post, I found out who Gwenpool was because I had a copy of issue 4, but I'm gonna be honest, I think I saw her somewhere else prior to that, probably some shitty YouTube video about Marvel? Lego Marvel Superheroes 2? I don't remember. Still, I became a fan of this book, and I saw that this is one of the many comics that people bond over to talk about how good it was. I didn't know that I wanted to write this post until prior to April of 2024, when I was thinking of comic books to review for my birthday and I thought "Yes, I should look at that one comic about the white girl from Marvel! That one was a classic!". Originally, it was gonna be titled "The Comics That Changed Me", and it was gonna have the very first comics I had ever ...
