Lame-Ass Storytelling 101.

Image
LAST TIME: Doc Ock made new arms and used them to beat the shit out of Spider-Man and Gold Goblin.  The Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 6) #29 and 30. Written by Zeb Wells and Ed McGuinness.  Well, judging by the cover, ANYTHING could happen in this issue, but it's most likely gonna feature Spider-Man.  And so, it does. The issue begins with ol' Spidey waking up to find himself being carried by J. Jonah Jameson and Doc Ock's robotic arms in a splash page that imitates a better comic that I wish I were reading instead of this shit. (Amazing Fantasy #15, from all the way back in 1962). Ock has taken Norman to a place where he can regain his memories of being the Green Goblin while also showing moments from comics that I wish I were reading instead of this shit. (Superior Spider-Man's Goblin Nation arc...*) *Sidenote: Why was issue 31 the series finale if there were 2 issues afterwards? We'll get to that eventually.  Back with JJJ and Spidey, they are debating about how they...

Spidey's Birthday (and mine too.)

Image
Today is my 18th birthday, but I thought I'd look at a more important man's birthday. Aw, man, I feel JUST like Max Dillon right before he fell into a pool with electric eels! 97 days ago, I asked everyone what they wanted me to review on this site for a special occasion, the poll winner was Amazing Spider-Man #500 by J. Michael Straczynski and John Romita Jr. from all the way back in 2003. However, I feel like I need to review the issues that led up to this. But do not worry, I made the recaps and reviews as short as possible. This is The Amazing Spider-Man: Happy Birthday by JMS and JRJR. Issue 57. This is the cover, by artist Tony Harris, who drew the cover of the next issue, and issue 501. Shows Spidey swinging by the AMERICAN flag while a bunch of New Yorkers watch.  There is some red lightning, Spidey's got to see what's going on... What the hell is going on? Spidey, The Fantastic Four and Thor are fighting against some strange creatures from another dimension, th...

Spidey, J. Michael Straczynski, and John Romita Jr. have done it again! Here I am, looking at the JMS Spider-Man run again.... But before that, I want to give my 2 cents on a debate that has been going on for decades... Are comic books sexist? Yes, definitely. Anyway, here is issue 51 of The Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 2) This is the cover by J. Scott Campbell, it looks alright, there is one small oversight... Well, there's plenty I could mention, but look at Spidey in the background, either Spidey is really tall or that building is really small. That being said, composition-wise, I like this cover, after all the covers that are just Spider-Man doing a cool pose, it's kinda refreshing to see something different for a change.  Okay, the story is titled "Digger", clearly the plot is about Spider-Man & Mary Jane buying shovels and defiling graves. PROLOGUE: Way back in 1957, a gamma bomb went off, a guy was accidentally caught in the blast and is now a big green rage mo...

Spiders scare the hell outta me.

Older, tall, muscular, handsome Edward found a way to read issues 46 to 58 of The Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 2). Right now, it's time for issues 46 to 50. by J. Michael Straczynski again, and John Romita Jr. Again. First off, is issue 46 (DUH!), released on December of 2002. This may look like your regular-ass Spider-Man cover, and it is, but this is drawn by Frank Cho. We need to address this artist. See, this cover is normal, but EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. there is a textless variant, he takes his time to make a cover featuring a female superheroine's ass or tits, usually with a funny joke and Spider-Gwen in the background saying "OUTRAGE!". This guy is a GOONER. Let's begin. Spidey is pondering about how he tried to get MJ back and failed. And then tried to stop Doc Ock and also failed. He goes to sleep, only to have a weird dream about what happened in the astral plane a few issues ago. It's okay, Peter, dreams do not actually mean anything, I once dreamed that th...

Gwenpool (2025) #1 Pre-Review

Image
It won't be out until May, but I already want to tear it apart, so I will do what I did when that Spider-Man cartoon show came out and review it without reading it.  It seems like the guys at Marvel read my recent review of ASM 26 and thought that I needed to suffer just a little bit more.  Gwen Stacy is back from the dead and she's now a crazy psycho that goes by the name of... Gwenpool. I'm gonna be brutally honest when I say that I have a little bit of hope for this series, I mean, it's being written by the same guy that brought us Zombiotes... Here's the thing, Zeb Wells is also a great writer, but he brought us over 50 issues of garbage. I don't think it's the writer's fault; I think it's the editorial team's fault. What is going on at Marvel HQ that only exclusively affects Spider-Office* books? Only the best detectives can figure that out. I woke up one morning to the news of a new Gwenpool title, I was really giddy because I was young and...

Until the Stars Turn A Fairly Reasonable Temperature.

C'mon, Edward, you reviewed 10 issues in one post, and soon you'll be doing 43 issues in one post, just have a look at 6 in one... This one has no "Little Edward" backstory other than Little Eddie stumbling upon this trade when he was looking for Spider-Man stuff on the Internet Archive when he was 12. I added it to favorites and proceeded to NOT read it.  Years later, old and mature (and tall) Edward got issues 41 and 42 for Christmas. Oh, and then I got Marvel Unlimited! So, I should be able to review the rest of the JMS run. This is Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 2) #40, by J. Michael Straczynski and John Romita Jr. There is a small gap in my collection, I have issues 30-39, and issues 41-42, this one has always intrigued me... No, it started intriguing me right about now because I have never read it, I have never heard anyone talk about it and frankly, I want to be the first to do so!  Oh, I guess I should talk about the cover, this one was drawn by Jason Pearson, who w...

A Childhood Classic.

I fell out of love with comics for a bit, until I read that issue of Gwenpool when I was 12, I HAD to read more shit! Which is why I dug up my old copy of the Mexican Exclusive Spider-Man Omnibus released to celebrate Marvel's 70th anniversary, all the way back in 2009. It compiles issues 568 to 583. Let me tell you, that thing was HEAVY AS SHIT. Oh, and I guess I enjoyed the stories, though 2 comics that stuck out to me were issues 578 and 579. Why, you may ask? We're about to find out when we look at The Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 1) #578 and 579 by Mark Waid and Marcos Martin, right now. This cover shows Spidey rising from the ashes. I really like what they did with the logos and titles here. PREVIOUSLY: I didn't review the last issue. Not like it's relevant, anyway. The book begins with Peter Parker eating Chinese food and reading his fortune on his Spider-Man pajamas in the rain, which is something that I do on the regular. The fortune cookie he was eating said ...

Mr. Spidey vs... Nothing.

Once upon a time, Little Edward* was looking for another place to buy digital comic books after the shutdown of the Marvel Comics app. He found Google Play Books, but the books there were crazy expensive, but he found volume 2 of the ASM trade paperback for an efficient price. What he found was one cool story. *Dear Water, I mean LITTLE as in YOUNG. This is not about height. I AM 6 FOOT. Well, it's time to look at the J. Michael Straczynski run on Amazing Spider-Man once again. The TPB contains issues 36 to 39. We'll be skipping over issue 36 because it's the 9/11 issue, but we will be looking at the other 3 issues today.  ISSUE 37. By JMS and John Romita Jr. Released in January of 2002. The cover shows Peter Parker, taking off his mask. This cover was drawn by Kaare Andrews. These covers really have nothing special going on, most either show Spidey swinging or crawling a wall. Really wanna know the thought process at Marvel HQ. I do like this cover, though. As you may reme...

The Show Must Go On.

Look at me, looking at 60's Spidey. Oh, and then 2000's Spidey. Why don't I look at something more modern? Something that was released... 2 years ago? Well, let's have a look at The Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 6) Once again. I mean, it's appropriate, we're on vol. 7, and scarily close to issue 1000. First of all, a little context for a little detail in the story: Spidey is wearing a suit that was made by Norman Osborn, it sort of resembles the suit from the All-New, All Different era. It has all sorts of fairly cool gadgets... But it doesn't sit right with me, why is Spider-Man wearing a suit that was made by his worst enemy? Odd. LAST ISH: The Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 6) #26 was... Less than amazing. Peter and like 700 other guys fought Rabin, and it cost the life of Ms. Marvel. I wasn't very thrilled reading it. Now, of course, that wasn't my last Spider-Man comic, as I managed to pick up issues 21 and 22 from Panini's Spanish translation, which c...

The End of Coming Home (Review)

Image
Well, it's the end of the beginning for the J. Michael Straczynski run on the Amazing Spider-Man. Last time, Spidey fought Morlun and lost. Now he's going to irradiate himself in order to defeat Morlun, hey, it's a win/win situation, he either dies or he defeats Morlun. Well, let's see how this story ends by looking at issue 35 of the Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 2) by J. Michael Straczynski and John Romita Jr.  The cover (by J. Scott Campbell) is actually more creative than the ones we've seen in the last 4 issues. Spidey's costume on the floor of Peter's room, where he pretty much can't keep anything off the fucking floor, look, this place is a mess, there's books, web shooters, and a toothbrush. C'mon, Peter, keep your shit together. The comic begins, Morlun is about to find Peter so he can eat him. Meanwhile, Peter is experimenting with dangerous radioactive material to make his blood not pure. Morlun is getting closer, so Spidey decides to injec...

Interview with DreadedCBM.

I searched high and low for someone to interview, it took me less than 5 minutes to find someone that was willing to be asked stupid questions... LESS THAN 5 MINUTES! However, the hard thing isn't always finding someone to interview, the hard thing is asking the questions themselves. Now, this is a comedy site, so there's obviously some questions that are gonna be silly and unhinged sprinkled in there. This is also going to be incredibly unprofessional. I just asked the first person on the list and they agreed to do this interview, everyone welcome Dreaded from Destiny Productions. Believe me, I'm more nervous than he is, even though we've been friends for over a year now and we talk frequently. Eddie: Now, the first question I would like to ask is... Who are you? Dreaded: "I'm him" E: Well, we're off to a pretty good start. Would you like to explain what you do? Any hobbies? work? D: "I’m a writer. I write stories about the things I love. Superhe...
