Spider-Man Tsum Tsum Review
I am very critical of Spider-Man media. I love this character more than anyone else in the world and I like to believe that I have a good understanding of what makes this character so cool and how things should be, and that means I'm critical of the many plush toys that have come over the years. Believe it or not, the guy that decided to post every Spider-Man plushie ever made does NOT own every Spider-Man plushie. I own all of 9 Spider-Plushies. Here's the list:
- Spider-Man 3 PlayByPlay plushie.
- Ultimate Marvel Spider-Man Plushie (small)
- Ultimate Marvel Spider-Man (BIG)
- Super Hero Squad Spider-Man Plushie
- Spider-Man: Homecoming Homemade Suit Plushie by Funko.
- Ty Beanie Babies Spider-Man plushie
- Itsy Bitsy Spider-Man
- Spider-Man Plush Keychain (2002)
And the one we're gonna be reviewing today. But we need background first. During the 2010's, Disney had this little thing called "Tsum Tsums", they were these weird pill shaped toys based on different Disney characters like Mickey, Winnie The Pooh, and other characters. Now, of course, Disney owns Marvel, so OF COURSE they made Marvel Tsum Tsums, there's even a whole comic about it.
This Tsum Tsum franchise thing was obviously going to have plushies, and of course, they made one for Spider-Man.This plushie came in 3 sizes, small (fits in the palm of your hand), medium (pillow-ish, aka the one I have) and large (Godzilla-size). Sadly, I believe this version is out of print, though there is a new one that looks completely different. I also got mine used, and it definitely was used alright, because this one doesn't have a very visible web-pattern on camera.
Spider-Man is in that classic Tsum Tsum shape, and he even has those little feet and arms (not in the picture because he's a fatass). Though, how accurate is this Tsum Tsum to the Spider-Man that I know from the comics and movies? Be very afraid, Tsum Tsum Spidey, you're gonna be criticized very harshly if you're not like the one I know.
So, Spider-Man in the comic books knows that whole power and responsibility thing, and he knows very well how to be a good superhero. To put this to the test, I staged a robbery with a bunch of actors, one robber and one helpless Mary Jane. When the robber snatched MJ's purse, Spidey immediately swung into action and kicked his ass, gave the purse back and smooched MJ. That's 1 point. Spider-Man has super strength and agility, of course, I launched a bunch of pumpkin bombs towards him, he avoided them all and he even threw one back at me! It's gonna take a while to heal these burn marks but he passed the test. +1 point. It was at this point that I ran out of ideas and just gave him his "Real Spider-Man award".
In all seriousness though, this plushie has all the right colors for Spider-Man. I mean, that's just what he looks like sometimes! It's wonderful. Spidey's costume color varies from every colorist, but I think the colors on this toy should be the standard. His lenses are apparently supposed to look like the ol' 60's comics but they honestly remind me a lot of John Byrne's artwork from the early 2000's, and I like that artwork a lot.
Plush-wise, this is more of a pillow to use when you fall asleep on your work desk, but I like to hold him close whenever I'm having horrible nightmares about re-reading West Coast Avengers.
Here are testimonials from other Spider-Man critics and even people that are not Spider-Man critics.
"He's an icon" -SpiderMan_Newz
"They turned him into Mr. Krabs pill" -Toilet
"If you cracked him on the counter like an egg he would be full of yolk" -obsidian
"I wanna pat him he’s so cute" -mercabun
That's it.
Well, this is a plushie, I like him a lot, he's really perfect, he makes my brain feel emotions that don't exist, he's a really good Spider-Man... I'd say 10/10, why wouldn't I give it 10/10? He's the best Spider-Man out there! Go buy it!
